RVR Backstage Day 1 – Sunday

Welcome to RVR Backstage! Your tour guide Sparrow is ready to give you the Sunday night behind-the-scenes tour of check-in day of camp: 

It’s sooo good to have you along on this VIP backstage tour of a week of camp. Campers checked in around 3pm, met their counselor and bunkmates for the week, and enjoyed their first camp dinner! 

Sunday night is all about real-life connection, after phones have been left behind. From the moment campers arrive, relationship is at the heart of this ministry. Often campers arrive with overwhelming burdens. You might think of it as hard soil, and right out of the gate, we are working to cultivate that soil, so that seeds of faith can take root, be watered, and grow.  

Campers are also introduced to this year’s theme, “Come Alive.” By the end of the week, campers will hear a four-part Gospel message that shares the good news of Jesus’s love. It’s our prayer that campers will come alive not just in a brightening of their emotional and relational state, but by accepting Christ’s invitation to restorative, real relationship with Him.

After evening services, campers begin to build the bonds of friendship through old-fashioned fun. Today’s kids have reduced physical, social, and outdoor play, and vastly increased time on screens in virtual environments. And tragically, youth anxiety and depression have both increased over 100% since 2010. Author Jonathan Haidt shares these staggering statistics and the challenges facing youth in his 2024 book “The Anxious Generation.” He also has noted that one of the best antidotes for this is… camp! 

Over 2,000 kids and teenagers will get to experience camp in a life-changing way thanks to RVR Impact Partners (plus the teens in the TNT Discipleship program and young people serving as summer staff!). This is a significant opportunity to share the good news of Jesus with the next generation.

Right now at at Fort Roller (ages 7-12) the Sunday night block party is kicking off and at Frontier Town (ages 12-17), the Hub party is about to begin!
