Archery Tag® Game Play
RVR can accomodate up to 16 players per game (8 vs 8). The most popular gameplay, however, consists of two teams of 5 players each playing opposite one another. Other group members can watch and cheer on from the "safe zone" on the sidelines and await their turn as individual games don't last very long.
There are two primary objectives during a game of Archery Tag:
- to tag/hit all your opponents with arrows, and/or
- to shoot out the five discs of the opposing team’s target.
As in a standard game of dodgeball, you eliminate a player by tagging/hitting him or her with an arrow, or by catching his or her arrow when shot at you. Once "out" of the game, you take your place on the sidelines of your team, awaiting your chance to get back into the game. If you catch an arrow then not only do you take out the opposing team's player who shot at you, you also get to bring back into gameplay one of your teammates who was previously tagged out!
Similarly, the 5-Spot Targets work to save a “life” of one of your team's players. A tagged player can be called back into the game when a spot is knocked out of the other team's target. If your team manages to knock out ALL FIVE spots from the other team's target then your team also instantly wins the game!
